A PLUS is a free college
and career readiness program for students in grades 8 through 12 built on a platform of informative seminars taught
by community experts. These ADVANCED PRE-COLLEGIATE LEADERSHIP SEMINARS
prepare students to succeed in post-secondary education and the workforce by giving them exposure, experience and tools to
be used in and after high school. A PLUS students get extra help and attention from mentors and caring adult
volunteers, visit colleges and universities and give time to community service projects. They also explore careers and interests,
apply for scholarships and learn life skills.
A PLUS is
fun for students and it increases their access to counseling and tools needed to bridge the gap between high school and life
as a productive citizen. Students begin building their college and career portfolios and increase their chances of success
in life. A PLUS is not school. It is a supplement to the education that the student is
already receiving. Students learn to take the lead in planning for their future by being studious and prepared.
